I am new here and to Excel.
And I would like to thank each of you for this great forum and what you do.

I have created a simple spreadsheen which consists of (9) columns and (20) rows.
I have shaded (5) of the columns in different colors. When I was working on this I somehow was able to then create a black lined grid over the color shaded area by clicking in the corner and dragging what looked like a pen or drawing tool across the entire spread sheet.Unfortunately I have now forgotten how I did this.

Also in the cells I need to input numbers, but ........... If I put say 306, I can center it and it's fine. But if I use 036, it always deletes the zero. I can't seem to use any number that beging with zero without having the zero deleted if it's in the first position.

I will appreciate any help you care to offer.

Are you using Excel 2003 or 2007?

In 2007 go to the Font group under "Home" on the ribbon and you will see just to the right of Bold, italic, and underlined options an icon showing a pen held to a sheet. Click the drop down arrow in the icon and you will see the "Draw Border" tool.

To keep the zero from disappearing insert an apostrophe before the number.

Example: '0123

It forces the number to be treated as text.

Thank you so much albasheer.
Sorry I forgot to mention the version which is 2007.

I applied both your answers and they worked like a charm. Exactly what I needed.
