Hi,

Im stuck with a pivot graph in excel as I have no idea how to represent the data, hope someone can help!

For context, I need to create a pivot graph which helps to inform seasonal variations. I work on a scheme where I have been tasked with analysing the quarterly outputs of individual participants (Q1,Q2, Q3, Q4).Its worth being aware that not all participants enter the scheme at the same time, so Q1 for one participant will be different for another. Some participants have been or the scheme for 3 years, some for only 1.

In order to compare any single participants Q1 year 1 with their Q1 year 2 data, Q1 year 3 data etc., I want to 'group' all the Q1's together in a column chart. In the next 'set' of columns would be the 'qtr2' group, the next set Q3 Etc...

Ive posted a sketched image of what I need here: https://postimg.org/image/mzjv3tbid/

My pivot table is currently set up as follows:

Filters
- Participant name (so I can view by individual participants)
Columns - n/a
Rows -Qtr
Values - sum of output

Hope I've provided enough info and also hoping this is a relatively straightfoward fix - all help much appreciated!!

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Try it like this:

Filters - nothing
Columns - Participant Name (you can still filter this field)
Rows - Year then Qtr (remove Year if you prefer)
Values - Sum of Values

That should give you a nice pivot chart bar graph

Many thanks AFPathfinder, very much appreciated!

I think thats what my issue was, i wasnt adding the year to the rows too. :)

Cheers, Cal
