Hi guys,

Having a problem with my graph where the bars do not correctly match the Y axis. Fairly simple 3d clustered bar chart, I have checked the max value and this is set to Automatic. I have tried changing this to a higher max value and it still shows as the same. Upon scrolling over the bars, values shown are correct as in the data table so I am at a loss as to why this is happening.

Any ideas?

The bars don't match up because you're using a 3D chart. If you look at the base (the floor) you'll notice a gap between the back edge of the bottom of the bar and the back edge of the floor. There is a corresponding gap between the back edge of the top of the bar and the wall behind it, so the actual position of the projection of the top of the bar is not really denoted by the chart.

This is only one of many reasons not to use a 3D chart. I know 3D sounds a whole D better than 2D, but the third dimension does not add anything to the story, and as you have so clearly demonstrated, it actually detracts from it. A 2D bar does not look as sexy as a 3D chart. But like many things that appear sexy, there is too much perfume and paint to see what's really there.

Thanks for the reply.

So is it possible to fix with an upgraded flash plugin do you think? Or would you just recommend the 2D. Fully understand what your saying about the sexiness but for presentation etc sexy is good and eye catching..... lingerie is nicer to look at than pyjamas ;)

If you need flash to make your data more exciting, your presentation must not be very compelling.

Use a 2D chart.
