Is there any way to use a formula in G-Sheets Conditional Formatting - when it comes to the Range it applies to?

So normally it would be the usual A1:A1000

How do I dynamically change the range by looking at specific cells - I've tried using this with no luck!

= INDIRECT(C3&"1"):INDIRECT(C3&"1000")

where cell C3 is the column letter I need instead of column A

Thankyou for any help!
