Need a custom formula to search Q16 for the value that is in S16. If it contains that value somewhere in that cell then I need cell R16 to change color

Thanks!!

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Try a Conditional Formatting formula like this:
Excel Formula:
=ISNUMBER(FIND(S16,Q16))

Is this for Excel or some other App, such as Google Sheets?

It works okay on some cells others it does not, but if I delete the value it still stays the same color. Do I need to do the reverse formula also?

No, you shouldn't need to.

Do you have other Conditional Formatting rules in play?
Do you have calculation mode set to Automatic?
If you are applying this formula over a large range, how exactly are you extending it to cover that range?
And as Fluff asked, are you doing this in Excel or some other program/app?

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

In future please make it clear that you are asking for a solution for sheets & such questions need to be posted in the section of the site.
Thanks

Google Sheets
Yes, that is a very important detail you need to be sure to mention.
While there are similarities between Excel and Google Sheets, they are NOT the same and do have differences.
I have updated your thread title.

I have never used Google Sheets before, so I have nothing more to contribute to this thread.
