silly question

I have a spreadsheet that I have been told to put on to google drive. I have found an issue where one person has sorted a column (ie click on the C at the top and sort into alphabetical) instead of filtering. does anyone know if you can lock a sheet so users cannot sort but only filter?

I have tried protecting sheet but this doesn't stop editors

Excel Facts

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
Is this an Excel workbook or Google sheets as stated in the post title?

Without having the workbook I presume that you applied filtering to a table of data?

I cannot tell for sure but you might be able to set up an Advanced Filter so that users can specify criteria for filtering but they will not be able to sort.

I can't promise that I can help but I'll try. If not me then possibly other people who are smarter about Excel.

If the data is not confidential hopefully you could post a link to your workbook. If necessary you can enter fake-but-realistic data before providing the link. Put the file on Dropbox, Box, 1Drive, Google Drive etc. Use the link icon above the message area. Make sure that other people can access the file!

Or, consider sharing relevant data using Mr Excel's excellent XL2BB addin that enables you to post a portion of a worksheet. See XL2BB - Excel Range to BBCode for details.

What filtering do you want?
