How can I convert whatever text I have in Column A into a link in Column B such that when I click on the link, it will go to Google.com, enter my text from Column A, and then execute Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" button so I go directly to the website that is the I'm Feeling Lucky result?

I'm aware of the Hyperlink() formulae, but am not sure how to get it to click on I'm Feeling Lucky.

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
Why don't you try doing the 'lucky' thing using IE and then have a look in the address bar?

That might perhaps give you the URL you are looking for which you should be able to use to create the HYPERLINK/URL you want.:)

I'm not sure I follow... what I'm hoping to do, is to click on a link from within my spreadsheet and have that open up IE and go to the webpage result of Google's "I'm Feeling Lucky" option for whatever I searched on (text from Column A of my spreadsheet).

Is it possible to add screenshots of the steps you follow - including the address of any link you click on. I don't see any "I'm feeling lucky pages".

For instance... if A1 of my spreadsheet I have entered "imdb sean penn", then in A2 I want a link that I can click on that will open up IE, enter "imdb sean penn" in a Google search box, then click "I'm Feeling Lucky" which will take me directly to:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000576/

So by clicking on my link in A2, IE opens and goes directly to http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000576/

I hope that makes sense... Thanks for the help!

Why don't you just goto IMDb and 'cut out' the middle man?

Because the data in Column A could be anything... not necessarily imdb related. It might be "espn kobe bryant" and if that's the case I want to click on something and have it take me directly to:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=110 which is where you will go if you "manually" went to google, typed in "espn kobe bryant" and clicked I'm Feeling Lucky.

I thought the whole idea of the 'I'm feeling lucky' link was that you just hit it rather than actually specifying criteria.:)

If you type something into a google search and then click Google Search, it takes you to Results page and from there you can pick which result sounds best.

If you type the same thing into a google search and click "I'm Feeling Lucky" instead, it doesn't take you to a results page, it takes you directly to the webpage of it's #1 result, which is what I'm looking for.

Ok, now I see what you did.

I don't have an immediate solution I'm afraid, although VBA code exists to automate IE and communicate with web pages.
