I want to the do following:

1. Make a spreadsheet that enters a postcode
2. This then converts this to a geocode format that will be able to be cut and paste into google earth.

So quite simple I think but how does one do this? What data do I need?

Excel Facts

Create a Pivot Table on a Map
If your data has zip codes, postal codes, or city names, select the data and use Insert, 3D Map. (Found to right of chart icons).
I have been working on ways to extract data from webpages using VBA, but have no wish to re-invent the wheel.

There are several websites that have facility to input post codes and get geocodes or Google Maps.

You do not stated what data you actually have, and what you actually need as a finished product. What do you want to use it for ? Address positions can very inaccurate in Google Maps. eg. it puts the position of my home at least 100 yards from where it actually is, even with the full address. I have had similar problems with other addresses. So the more address information you can supply the better.

EXAMPLES

Manual Input single Postcode only. Returns a map.

Copy/Paste postcode sets. Returns geocodes

http://www.batchgeo.com/
Copy/Paste sets - Address/Town/Postcode etc. Returns a Google map
Seems OK with postcode only. As accurate as Google can be.
