going from Access 2003 to Access 2007

Is it possible to convert an application from Access 2003 to Access 2007 not creating an .accdb?

You can just leave it as an .mdb file. I have several that I have never upgraded and I have been using them for years with no issue even though I have moved from AC2002 to 2007 to 2010 to 2013 and now running 2016.

Thanks for the reply. Just to make things clear
when I convert to 2007 I should just ignore the accdb and continue
to edit the .mdb file?

No. I never converted. I just continue to open the files as .mdb files. If you convert, then you will have the newer .accdb file type. They operate without issue. Is there a particular reason to convert?

let's make sure we're all using the same definition of convert

I think alansidman is saying don't convert the database from access 2003 format to 2007 format

but I think you''re saying convert (upgrade) your software from 2003 to 2007

so yeah, converting your desktop software to 2007 is fine,
2007 Access will continue to open and edit 2003 Access databases just fine
so there is no need to convert your actual database

I am currently working with three applications. Two are 2007 format, one 2003.
All are using .mdb files.
I am using 2007 for all three (except for editing main menu- I do that in 2003).
I would like to convert the 2003 format to 2007, but I wish to continue using
an .mdb. I wish to do this for consistency. Hope this makes sense.

I think James and Alan are right. You can continue using .mdb files with MSAccess 2007. Nothing needs to be converted - you just keep using the databases as they are (there is no such thing as an Access 2007 file format with .mdb extensions - you simply keep using the old .mdb file format which is compatible with Access 2007).
