I have a spreadsheet where i am typing text into cells as follows
cell A1 i am typing "timber", into cell A2 "metal", into cell A3 "stone" and other materials into cells below

If i start to type into A4 "timber" the cell will autofill from cell A1 when i type the letter t, it fills in the word timber
however if i leave cell A4 blank then start to type "timber" into A5 it will not autofill
It only autofills if there are no blank cells down column A
How do i get excel to ignore the blank cell at A4 or any other blank cells and autofill from above the blank cell ?

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I think autofill only works on contiguous ranges so rather than leaving cells completely empty, try entering a space or decimal point.
