General Access Question

I haven't used Access much (mostly for linking large databases) since they increased number of rows in Excel (and even then I was a basic Access user).

Can someone explain or direct me to a resource that could lay out when an Access database may be a better choice than Excel?

My current project is to create a database of prices. One user would input updated pricing for a product/geography. I want the database to track historical but to also generate standard reports which show the most recent price list by geography (or as a master). Creating this in Excel is getting messy and Access is the database program so I feel like it must be better suited but before I try to learn a whole new program I wanted to make sure it was the right move.
