Hi new here,

After some help!

I am writing a spread to produce a Gant like chart.
I have produced a gant chart using conditional formatting to fill in the cells no problem
Like this example http://www.mrexcel.com/tip058.shtml

But no rather than enter a start and end day I wish to only have one column for the number of days.
Therefore the 1st row would be 10 days and 10 cells would fill, the second row would say 5 days and
This would fill in 5 rows starting after the day (but on the row below), is this possible any tips or ideas
Welcome.

thanks

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Lightly tested...

Suppose your data are in column A starting with A1. Now, select the cells in row 1 starting with B1. Select Format | Conditional Formatting..., change the first dropdown to 'Formula Is', and enter the formula =COLUMN()-COLUMN($B1)+1<=SUM($A$1:$A1) Set the format as desired.

Now, select all additional rows of interest starting with B2. Select Format | Conditional Formatting..., change the first dropdown to 'Formula Is', and enter the formula
=AND($A2<>"",COLUMN()-COLUMN($B2)+1<=SUM($A$1:$A2),COLUMN()-COLUMN($B1)+1>SUM($A$1:$A1))
Set the format as desired.

[Note the use of both absolute and relative addresses in the 2 formulas.]
