I have converted a data base to excel and in a lot of the text in the address column are small boxes. I guess these are from dashes or unknown characters in the text. Is there any way to get rid of them other than doing it manually.

I think the squares denote a carriage return (alt+enter)
Copy one of the squares. Select your entire range. Press Ctrl+H. In the Find What section paste the square that you copied. In the Replace with section put in the character you want to replace the squares with (usually a space) and click on Replace All
