forum changes uppercase to lowercase; how to control that?

In a response, I typed the Excel formula =max(a1*90% + b1*10%). I intended "max", "a1" and "b1" to be in uppercase. I am certain I typed it that way. But after submitting, it appeared as lowercase. When I edited and carefully typed uppercase a couple times (to eliminate any possibility of human error), it still appeared as lowercase after submitting.

If that's the way the input box in this forum works, so be it.

But I coulda sworn I used uppercase in previous response without a problem.

So I wonder: is there an option that controls that behavior, and I inadvertently set it?

Or is the behavior context sensitive; for example, are "max", "a1" and "b1" treated differently than, say, "FOOBAR"? (I have not experimented.)

FYI, I am using Firefox 19.0.2.

PS: I'm sure I could use
Code:
to avoid any translation. I did not want to in this case. I tried [ noparse] to avoid the translation. That did not help.

I can't remember if any text needs to go [B]before [/B]the formula or not. Test.

Edit: BTW, I had to edit your post to slightly change your [ noparse]. It was causing my post to not parse my quote tags

Peter,
You could have added noparse tags to the noparse tag. :)

Thanks.
