I am trying to use the Number category with 1000, seperator and 2 decimal places but the program won't let me do that. It will do 1000 seperator or 2 decimal places but not both?

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.

If you're looking for the comma separator, it's located under the 'Numbers' tab. See screenshot.

Yes Ihave done that but when I type the number in the cell it shows the decimals but not the 1000 seperators. Tere must be another setting somewhere.

No there isn't. Explain the steps you are taking exactly.

Also you need to update your forum profile. There is no such thing as Office 2011.

Thanks for your input. Actually my son has just fathomed it out. He went to Options, Advanced and unchecked system separator and it seems to have worked. Thanks

You shouldn't need to do that. It indicates that your Windows Region settings are not right for you.
Go to the windows control panel and find your Region settings.
Under Formats > Addional Settings you should see a screen like the one below.
Check that what you see there makes sense for your region.
