Hello, I am reviewing some calculations on a sheet that was sent to me and found the formula below. What is the function of the parenthesis and why the results are different?

Formula 1.
=(1/4)+104/12 Result 8.92

Formula 2.
=((1/4)+104)/12 Result 8.69

Why is there a difference between these two? What is exactly is the function of the additional parenthesis on the second formula?

Thanks

It changes what you divide by 12. Do you want to divide just 104 by 12 or do you want to divide (1/4+104) by 12?
=(1/4)+104/12 = 0.25 + 8.67 = 8.92

=((1/4)+104)/12 = 104.25 / 12 = 8.69

=((1/4)+104)/12 = 104.25 / 12 = 8.69
thanks for the breakdown. I'm not sure which calculation was needed or intended but with the breakdown I can ask more specifically. Thanks again!
