I was hoping someone would be able to help me. I was trying to develop a formula to would aloow me to take specific number of working hours a distribute them along a bell curve.

The value would be a specific number of project hours over a specific number of years or months.

10,000 hours

Year 1 - 1,000 hours
Year 2 - 2,500 hours
Year 3 - 3,000 hours
Year 4 - 2,500 hours
Year 5 - 1,000 hours

I would like to be able to apply the same normal distribution based on a user input project timeframe and number of hours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi, welcome to the board.

Applying that particular distribution to some other data set should be easy, by just breaking the user input timeframe into 5 chunks, and allocating hours to each chunk in the ratios 10%, 25%, 30%, 25%, 10%.

Thank you very much for the prompt reply. I did have that percentage breakdown applied, but then when I start to very the number of project years I was hoping to maintain some assemblence of a bell curve without have to calculate the percentage breakdowns.

For instance the same project hours of 10,000 hours considering a 3 year or 5 year project.

I saw an early post which was using the norm.dist but I don't have a standard deviation.
