I have a spreadsheet that has three cells merged vertically. In this cell I enter six different letter codes to help me track performance instances. These are "A+", "A-", "m+", "m-", "+", and "-". Each of these are separated by a space within the cell. I would like to have six different cells off to the right to count the number of occurrences of each one inside the cell. How many "+" responses, how many "m-" responses, etc. Is there a formula that will allow me to count each item? Do I have to use commas in the cell to separate my entries? I have been searching online and trying various formula iterations, but I can't seem to find one that will do what I need.

Thanks for the help.

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
How about

Book1
ABCDEFGHI
6"A+", "A-", "m+", "m-", "+", "-"A+A-m+m-+-
7111133
8
9
End
Cell Formulas
RangeFormula
D7=(LEN($A$6)-LEN(SUBSTITUTE($A$6,D6,"")))/LEN(D6)
