Formula not showing up in formula toolbar

If I have six cells with numbers in them in one column and I go to autosum those six numbers, the formula will be correct and sum correctly, but the formula will not show up in the formula toolbar. It just appears blank. I am happy to email a screenshot to someone if need be.

Shade all formula cells
To shade all formula cells: Home, Find & Select, Formulas to select all formulas. Then apply a light fill color.
Welcome to the Board!

Do you have the sheet Protected? That behavior will happen if the cell's protection properties are set to Hidden (Format-->Cells-->Protection).
