Formula needed!

I have been to the following places, the following number of times.

A 4
B 3
C 2
D 2
E 2
F 2
G 2
H 1
I 1
J 1

I want to find a formula that tells me that i’ve been to x places, x amount of times. So at the moment x=2. If I go to C again, which makes C=3, then x=3.

I have made a COUNTIF formula to cumulatively count the number of times I’ve been to each place.

Can anyone help?

i’ve been to x places, x amount of times. So at the moment x=2.

What is x? Why is it 2? You have been to 10 places for a total of 20 times. It seems like x means two or three different things in that sentence.

Apologies, I didn’t explain myself at all well.

Here is a list of places I’ve been & the cumulative number of times.

A 1
A 2
A 3
A 4
B 1
B 2
C 1
C 2
C 3
D 1
D 2

So at the moment, x=2 as I’ve been to 2 different places, a minimum of 2 times.

If I go to D again, then x=3 as I’ll have been to 3 different places, a minimum of 3 times.

As I said previously, the cumulative number of times column I have made using the COUNTIF expression.

If your places are located in column A then the formula below would work

=COUNTIF(A:A,A1)

The above formula will always show the total of visits, it will NOT count each visit.

By my count you've been to 4 different places a minimum of two times: A-4, B-2, C-3, D-2. I still can't figure out how you are defining x.
