I'm redoing someone else's workbook. Their formulas begin with =+.

I've never seen this before. What is it?? :-?

Excel Facts

How to total the visible cells?
From the first blank cell below a filtered data set, press Alt+=. Instead of SUM, you will get SUBTOTAL(9,)
it's basically the same thing as =Q12, some people hit the + sign instead of =.

The cell equals ( nothing + Q12) is what it pretty much translates too.

Welcome to the Board!

It's a throwback to Lotus 123. The + sign was used for entering formulas. In an effort to win users, Microsoft supported the leading + and just converted it to a formula.

Kind of like starting a formula with "@" and Excel will convert it to "=".

It's not really of any consequence.

Hope that helps,

Smitty

Yes, thanks!! So just ignore it or delete it. Little things like that drive me nuts until I can figure them out. Now I can continue with my work!!
Really, not kidding.
Thanks!!!!!
