formula calculation gets wrong - using Minute formula

Excel Facts

Round to nearest half hour?
Use =MROUND(A2,"0:30") to round to nearest half hour. Use =CEILING(A2,"0:30") to round to next half hour.
Perhaps you could tell us what formula is in C3?

it is because the function minute only works with positive numbers, 8 hours 50 minute minus 7 hours 24 minutes give a positive time value, while 5 hours 50 minutes minus 7 hours 24 minutes gives you a negative time value, time cannot be negative. so depend what result you wnat as to how to solve the problem

Do you really want 26 rather than 86 as the result for C2? Do you not care about the hours part?

Since there are 1440 minutes in a day, you could use:

=(A3-B3)*1440

with this formula I have one more requirement..
suppose,
"IF the value in cell A1 is BLANK, then return "BLANK""
"IF the value in cell A1 is TEXT, then return "TEXT""
"IF the value in cell A1 is NUMERIC, then return "NUM""

How do I use formula for this..

That's a completely different formula.

=if(a1="","BLANK",IF(ISNUMBER(A1),"NUM","TEXT"))
