When I type in "DEC4200" (without quotes) into a cell it enters it as Dec-00.
I go into format on the cell and choose GENERAL and it comes out as "840394"

I don't get it. I just want the DEC4200 to be DEC4200 in the cell. I've tried many different format methods with success.

Thank you for looking.

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.
Either format the cells to text before entering anything, or put put an ' at the start of the text.
