I'm not sure if this is possible.
Cell A1 has 2 letters AB
Is it possible to format as follows:
A = White Background & Red Font
B = Black Background and Yellow Font

Thank you in advance

You mean format individual text characters within a single cell?

Yes that is correct
From what I have researched, no it is not possible.
However, you can imitate this by modifying the width of the cell to be one character wide and then format each cell its own color. If you really want to push the illusion you can set the boarder fill color around the cells in question to clear so it looks it is one cell instead of 2.
