Is there a way to show a message for a Forms Control button on a tab - before its clicked. Like a description of what the button does......?

I know I can use it to trigger a UserForm and then the code. but I was hoping there was another way.

ControlTipText property of the button.
This will show text when the cursor floats above the button.
or
just put a label next to the button.

Isn't ControlTipText only on the ActiveX and not Forms?

Yes. Like you said, Form buttons placed on worksheets don't have tooltips.
Would you consider using a shape instead of a button and adding an hyperlink to the shape ? You can then use the hyperlink screentip.

Adding screetips to buttons placed on worksheets can be done but it is quite involved.
