Forgotten what command

Age is a terrible thing!! Can't remember the command for
= ("abc",1,"def",2,"ghi", 3)
the number returns the corresponding string (or maybe vice versa).
Can anyone help? Thanks.

=RIGHT(LEFT("abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz",A1*3),3)

Put 1 to 9 in A1

Thanks Perpa, that's clever. I remembered what I wanted - Choose - except that wasn't quite it
as I need a number for a known string. Solved with a collection object.
