Followed This Guide But Not Working As Intended

I followed the guide in the link below but have encountered a few problems and do not know how to fix them.

1) I have the combo box but the list in the combo box does not shorten when searching, only the helper column shortens which is less than ideal as the first 20 items in the list stay showing and don't match the search criteria.

2) If I click in the combo box and try to use the arrow keys on my keyboard to scroll down then excel crashes and closes itself every time.

3) If problem 1 cannot be remedied then I wanted the option of typing in the search bar and results appearing in the helper column but the drop down list not showing when I type and only showing if the actual drop down arrow is clicked.

This is the guide I used

https://trumpexcel.com/excel-drop-down-list-with-search-suggestions/

I would be grateful for any suggestions on this as the worksheet may be used by others so having excel crashing every time they press the down arrow is not ideal.

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
