First MVP?

I was perusing the MVP site in an effort to cull all the links to the MVP sites that I didn't already have, and I was drawn in to the bios.

There was one that listed the first European Excel MVP in 1996, so I was curious to know who was the true proto-MVP, or was it a group of you that were "knighted" the same year?

I believe the first Excel MVP was Bob Umlas, some 16 years ago ('94/95), the first year Microsoft launched the MVP program.
