Finding the column number

I am looking for a way to find the column number where a value can be found in a single row range. For example in range F3:Q3, a single value can be found in L3. I need the formula to return the number 7. I would then copy this formula down so I can perform the same calculation throughout the table.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Jim

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
Are you looking for a specific value, or just a non-blank value?
Which column will the formula go in?
