Hello all. I'm looking for a simple calculation to find the original cost of an item if the Sales Price and Margin % are known.

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Margin = (Sell Price-cost)/Selling Price.

therefore

cost = 0-(margin * Selling Price - Selling price)

example. Selling Price in B1, Margin in C1 then cost formula would be =0-(B1*C1-B1)

Copy the formula in C4 into B4 and add an equal sign (=) to the front.
Green cells are for your inputs; red cell for the calculation result.

If your margin is just a number and not formatted as percentage, this should give you the cost.
Code:
B3/(100+B2)*100
B3 is the sale price and B2 is the margin expressed as 10 or 15 or 45.
