Hello,
Could someone please direct me to a Free File/Folder Recovery software please ? I accidentally deleted an important folder on my computer and I need it very desperately. I was supposed to do something else on my computer yesterday instead I spent the whole time searching and trying different trial softwares which could get me my files back and none of them actually works for free. Any freeware which could help me to get my lost files back would be a great help. thanks very much.

Hi Peter.
Big thanks for this link. It does not help me because the files which I am trying to restore is more than 500 MB and this software displays the file which is accidentally deleted in scattered clusters across the computer's hard drive. It is next to impossible for me to identify these lost clusters in order to get the deleted file back and working. In the Readme part of the file, the author clearly mentions that "Even if a file seems to be restored, there is no guarantee that the contents are correct" hence it kind of a risk to play with the contents of the search made by this software.

I am sending you a PM for that another program that you have used successfully in the past just like I sent you a PM for Superantispyware ;) You are always a great help, thanks!

Hi, big thanks to you for the additional Recuva link.
It seems to be a nice free software. It will certainly help in case I am not successful in restoring my files through the software which Peter (VoG) has sent to me on my personal email address.

Maybe way too simple, but... Look in the Recycle bin; unless you emptied it, you may be able to retrieve the file from there.

thank you very much, Peter (VoG) & XLD for the timely help you guys have showered on me and saved my year's work.

I tried Peter's suggestion and it worked, although not completely successful in restoring all the files but I was able to restore the ones which were very important. However, I need to say that the software which XLD directed to me (Recuva) is equally an excellent freeware to restore accidentally deleted files.

My sincere thanks to Dennis as well for putting in some of his own time & interest in my subject :)

Hi Nimit,

Glad to hear that you're up and running again. It raises the question; do you have a backup strategy? Sometimes that is the only way to get files back, because once a file is marked as 'deleted' all of its blocks are regarded as fair game for the operating system, and one or more of the internal blocks could get overwritten, making full recovery impossible.
If you don't have a huge amount of data, just copying to a USB key could be useful insurance.

I do have a backup strategy and I do follow that religiously. However, we are all humans and humans are bound to commit mistakes. I forgot these files to back them up on my 500 GB Western Digital Portable HardDisk and I had to bear with the consequences.

Besides, I am not discontented of going through the pain but learning some new things and some new good & freeware products available on the internet.
