Hello, can anyone tell me why I am having files with the ~$ leading the file name? The files are created using a macro. Thanks in advance

They are normally "owner" or "lock" files and shouldn't really be there once you close the file, sometimes they remain, for example after a crash.

Thanks Mark, so just delete them periodically (easy to do as they always apear at the top of the pile).

You're welcome, yes should be safe to just delete if the actual file isn't open
