I have a couple of fields that need adding together. For some reason the fields are not showing in the Expression Categories of the Expression Builder. I've done this before and the fields were there, now there not, even though the "Expression Elements" is selected. Any ideas?

Excel Facts

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Hi,

I very rarely use the expression builder. You can create your expression without it. See if that works, if not post back with info about the query and what you are trying to do.

Where are these "fields" you looking for?
Are they from a table, a query, or are the calculated fields in the query you are running it from?
Note the different sections (for tables and queries) in the Expression Builder.

Thanks. The expression builder has Expression Elements, Expression Categories, and Expression Values. Typically the query that is open and being revised in Design View is listed in the Expression Elements. From there you can select the Expression Categories, or what I'm referring to as "fields". For some reason, on occasion, the query that is being used is not listed in the Expression Elements. I closed MS Access, reopened, and it reappeared. I'm not sure if there is an answer but my problem is solved. Odd.

Hi, i encountered the same problem. I did the same thing (close access and then opened again) and it did solve the problem. Would you have any idea why that is so? Is that the only solution to the problem? Thanks for your reply
