As I am working on a pre-existing access database. i am editting a form to add an existing feild into the form from the table.

I am going out on a limb and assuming this is because the name of the field was a reserved word that access uses

but the creator made a field in thier table called "Total" and when i pull that field from the existing fields list and drop it into the table it gets given the name "Text219" instead of "Total"
is my assumption correct about this being a reserved word?

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
What do you mean 'drop it into the table'?
I generally just add a control and then set it's source. That does not change the control name, I do that and prefix with control type, txt, cbl, lst etc

I have only ever seen the control named the same as the field if you use the wizard. I prefer as I mentioned to amend the control name.
So explain the steps you are taking.
