Hi Friends,

Is it possible to extract a particular range of cells, for example c1:c20 from a closed excel workbook (example - sheet1.xlsx) into an open workbook (example - sheet2.xlsx), when opening the workbook (sheet2.xlsx), probably using something like Private Sub Workbook_Open(), so it happens when the workbook (sheet2.xlsx) is manually opened?

Thanks for your help.

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.
Why not just put a formula in WB1 linking to WB2 ?

the scenario is that when sheet 2 opens, it should automatically pull a specific set of data into it from sheet 1, irrespective of whether sheet 1 is open or not. Please note that sheets 1 and 2 are two separate excel workbooks .. could anyone please help with a solution?

Is there a reason why you can't use formulas in Sheet1 to get the data from Sheet2 ?

It is not between two sheets.. It is between two workbooks or separate files .. and the extraction should happen automatically even if the other workbook is closed .. I reckon this can be accomplished using vba, but need help and ideas

I know it is between two workbooks. VBA should not be required.
Why don't you try it ?

Open both workbooks.
In WB1 select a cell to receive the data and type =
Select WB2 and select the cell containing the data to be put in WB1
Press Enter

Dear sir, I don't think that's a solution .. how do you suppose it'll work for a closed workbook?

Try it !!!
I give up on this thread. If you need further help, someone else will no doubt supply it.
