Hi all, newbie here. I need to extract a number from a text string so I can use said number to perform a lookup against another set of matching numbers.

Basically, I have a list of properties and they all have unique building codes or site identifiers. E.G Building5481. Now if I trim the text to extract the number, it’s still in text form and I can’t use it for a look up. Is there anyway of converting it to number?

Thanks in advance

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
Any math operation on the result of extraction will convert it to number, e.g. (result) + 0, (result) * 1, --(result) etc.

You can add 0 to it (amongst other ways)
