I have 50 odd tabs (labels by weekly date range (1st -7th etc) with data in unheaded columns adjacant to a text column on the left hand side, which is the same on each tab. Withing each text column (V) on each tab
, the word plums could be written. I want to pull into a table all the correspondind data in the 6 columns to the left of the text field (V) from each row, in each tab, that contains the word plums.

What did Pito Salas invent?
Pito Salas, working for Lotus, popularized what would become to be pivot tables. It was released as Lotus Improv in 1989.
One way you could do it is to use a free tool called "generic Consolidator" to consolidated the data from all 50 tabs to one tab. Then apply an auto-filter to the consolidated data and filter on "plum", or whatever... This assumes that the data from every tab would be less than ~1 Million rows.

Maybe someone know a better way, but if you want to go with this method, these directions will get you started: http://www.iwishexcel.com/authors-favorites/generic-consolidator/
