Extract text from a cell up to a certain point

Hi Guys,

I have a list of details in column L. Is there a way If these details contain a '|' then only show the details before the '|' else show all details. Example of the data in column L below:

Current details:
Gearbox DSG Oil Change | Routine Service

Desired result would be:
Gearbox DSG Oil Change

Try this formula and copy it down as needed: =LEFT(L1,FIND("|",L1,1)-1)

if your text is in L9, then in M9 enter ... =IF(ISERROR(FIND("|",L9)),L9,LEFT(L9,FIND("|",L9)-1))

Not really adding much value here other than to say that a simpler method of dealing with the "|" being missing is to force it onto the end of the text:

=LEFT(L9,FIND("|",L9&"|")-1)
