I am wanting to extract word archives from 1999 to 2015 the following into Excel for the purpose of create Access databases of 1000s of pieces of information.

1. Subject: Ad Removal November 20 <database of subjects
2. From: John Smith, Project Engineer <database of senders
3a.Personnel: Ron Wolf, Pacific Advertising <database of contractors
3b. security clearance: Yes or No

Note, I have create PDF copies per year 1999 to 2015 and converted PDF of 2015 into Word thinking I could then extract all the specific information using a Word Macro but recording Macros have issues with copy & paste.

My first post,:)

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.

  1. What does the text in the Word document look like?
  2. Is there any other text than the lines you have shown?
  3. Are these lines sprinkled somewhere in the total text or in a specific place (like the start).
  4. is there only one record to retrieve per text or multiple records?
  5. Do the keywords (Subject:, From:, Personnel:, Security clearance:) occur more than once in the text?
  6. Is the end of the text to retrieve for each item a space or a hard carriage return? (if a space then how do I recognise it being the end)?
