Hi Everyone,

This seems a basic question but I can't find an explanation.

I have a CSV when 8 rows of data. When I open with Notepad it looks fine (8 rows of data with 3 variables separated by a comma (,) in each row). However when I open it in Excel 2013 there are an additional blank rows between each row of data. http://www.homeandlearn.org/authors.csv

Any ideas why this would happen?

Thanks

Alex

Whats the difference between CONCAT and CONCATENATE?
The newer CONCAT function can reference a range of cells. =CONCATENATE(A1,A2,A3,A4,A5) becomes =CONCAT(A1:A5)
Hi amcahk, welcome to the board.

Perhaps you could post the strings from Notepad.
When you copied and pasted it from Notepad to Excel did you use Text-To-Columns?

Hi S.H.A.D.O

Actually, I am trying to use VBA to open the file and manipulate it. So I am really interested in basic .csv file strucutre. I have noticed that I actually have to press 'delete' twice to remove each line break from the .csv. Once I delete the lines and then re-create the line breaks it works OK.

So I guess that there is something weird with how the original line breaks were created.

Thanks for you comments though

Alex
