excels opens other documents

hi all, please help me with this

I created a word documentation and saved it in a personal folder, however when I go to open it EXCEL wants to open it, and it gives me an error message.

Then I have to go back and right click and use the open with button to choose open with word.

Why is excel trying to open all documents except those that are saved as an image file.

Well, when you do the right-click-open-with thing, there should be a little box down towards the bottom of the program listing it gives that says "always use the selected program to open this kind of file."

Did you check the box?

kristy, i feel like i should go to bed.

i checked what you said and you were right, what i did was change the word pad to word, and in the properties it was still listed as word pad. why excel was taking over i'm not sure but thanks to you the problem is fixed. ty :wink:
