Can I record a word mail merge macro and then call it from Excel with VBA, come back to Excel and update records with the date the mail merge was run? Is there a better approach?
No, the macro recorder doesn't support recording something that complex. That said, a mailmerge can be executed via an Excel macro. See, for example: https://www.mrexcel.com/forum/gener...vidual-pdf-files-post4796480.html#post4796480. Such a macro could be modified to update content in the workbook, either as the mailmerge is being run or afterwards.
