Hi all

I wondered if anyone could recommend a good book that would do two things:

1. Teach me the basics of financial modelling
2. Teach me how to apply VBA to financial modelling

I googled the terms first obviously, but there seem to be so many on the market that I could use a pointer in the right direction. :-D

Thanks

Your question is too broad.

Financial modeling covers too much area. Portfolio modeling? Corporate finance decision making? Valuations? Structured finance? blah blah blah

As for applying VBA to financial modeling...

In reality, you don't need to know VBA to do sophisticated financial modeling. Integrated financial statements with projections can be created just using worksheet functions. No circular references.

Portfolio management and analysis doesn't require VBA. Just working knowledge of statistics.

Forecasting and scenario analysis doesn't require VBA either.

VBA becomes a necessity only when you start doing serious financial quant work like derivatives.

If you don't already have a finance job, you can get a textbook in the area you are interested and workout the problems with a spreadsheet.
