Hi

Just found this forum, great info. Hoping you guys can help. I rarely encounter Excel "stumpers" but this one is really making me MAD!

I'm routinely getting the "Excel has encountered an unrecoverable error" message in one of my spreadsheets. Turns out there is a dangling/stranded comment just hanging out in the middle of one of the sheets... no link back to any cell. It does not disappear when I toggle display/hide cell comments. I can use arrow keys to update cells under the comment but as soon as I point at the comment to try to select it.. Excel errors out and closes.

I've tried saving the file with a different name and copying the sheet the "comment" is on, but the "comment" is still there. Before finding this forum I found a reference to "Detect and Repair" function on the Help menu, however when I run it.. all it seems to do is install an app then says its done. It never mentions any detection and/or repair.

Anyone run into this before? TIA

edited to add - Oh and I'm on Windows XP, Excel 2002 10.6856.6817 SP3
