I have an variant array with date/value pairs. If I plot with a line chart, the dates are correctly represented on the X-axis. I would prefer to have it as an X-Y chart (so there are no lines connecting the points). If I change the chart type to X-Y an change the x-axis formatting to date x-axis scale has dates from the the early 1900's instead of the range in the data.

Is there a way around this?

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
In the x-axis formatting task pane, change the Number format to one that does not include the year if all you want to display are the month and day. Here are the formats my system offers.

If you also want the years displayed, check the year that has been entered in each cell to make sure it is correct since Excel just uses the data in the cells to populate the x-axis labels.

Hope that helps.
