Excel Template Questions

Hello All!

I am working with excel 2010 on Windows 7.

I have created several 'templates' in excel which use a lot of formulas, macros, and conditional formatting. Of course, I have the users of these templates who keep pasting over the formulas, removing the conditional formatting, and saving the template with their changes over the whole template.

I am not really sure of my options, so I came here, as I'm sure some of you savvy people can help!

Questions:
  1. Is there a way for me to keep someone from saving over my template? Like a 'Warning' msgbox that pops up when they hit Save instead of Save As? Or any way to disable the save?
  2. Is there a way for me to stop them from just removing my conditional formatting while still allowing them change the cell values?

It's driving me crazy having to re-do my formatting and undo all of their changes all the time.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Add Bullets to Range
Select range. Press Ctrl+1. On Number tab, choose Custom. Type Alt+7 then space then @ sign (using 7 on numeric keypad)
1. You can try saving it as a read-only file.
2. If the cell value changes, the conditional formatting should stay the same unless they mess with it.

You can also protect the file and only allow them to change certain cells.

Hey Kyle, thanks for the response.

1. If I save it as a read-only, how does that affect my ability to update it when necessary?

2. They are taking my conditional formatting off of the cells, and I need to remove their ability to do that. Those cells require their input though, so I can't protect them unless there is an option to only protect formatting?

Nevermind, protecting the cells won't work, because I want them to be able to format some cells, but not others, and I don't think there is a way to lock some cells for formatting and lock other cells for something else.
