A colleague has asked to see if there a way of creating a formula to calculate the progression that a group of young people have made through a survey folllowing a short course.
The table below shows 9 young people and where they gauged their level of understanding before and after the session (1 being not at all and 4 completely understand)

Is there a formula that will calculate the difference that each student has made (ie post-pre = progression)?

Thanks

Excel Facts

What do {} around a formula in the formula bar mean?
{Formula} means the formula was entered using Ctrl+Shift+Enter signifying an old-style array formula.
Always a good idea to provide the expected results and an explanation of how you would get them manually. As it is, we are left to guess both. This is my guess.
