Excel subtotal - default change

Is there a way to change the default in the subtotal function? I have a spreadsheet that I reuse every day (I load raw text under the column headers) and then I have to subtotal by column E. Default always wants to subtotal by coumn A. I have tried saving the file with this change but it doesn't save.

Thanks Sheetspread, that would probably work. I was hoping there was a way to change the default but that may not be possible.

Maybe try a pivot table instead and just refresh
