I'd love to know what's out there now (and just around the corner) that can enable an Excel file to be accessed over the Internet and shared by multiple users.
I develop industry-specific complex analytical Excel apps for users who are, for the most part, not very technical. They have the prevailing mindset that 'Internet is better' for pretty much everything. While I love the Internet, it seems better suited for database applications rather than spreadsheet applications, and the 'multiple moving pieces' type apps I write are DEFINITELY better suited for spreadsheets.
Nonetheless - They want to be able to access these apps via the Internet (I get that) and share one master copy (I get that too) -- and Excel is awful for Sharing if you've got VBA code that needs to lock and unlock various worksheets to perform different operations -- which mine invariably do.
I've seen some applications that claim to replicate Excel functionality, but most seem to be spreadsheet-like front ends to databases or compilers, or single-sheet bound or otherwise unsuitable.
Anyone found anything great?
