Jonathan remembers that Excel 2010 would let you Select Visible while filtered, then clear the filter. It is not working today. Or is it working? The bug seems to be with the grey selection boxes that show you what is selected. The good news, once you know it is a bug, you can keep those visible cells as the only ones selected.

Select Visible. While Filtered. Then Clear.
And THEN, a weird Excel bug!.
[ laughing ].
Hey, welcome back to the MrExcel netcast. I am Bill Jelen.
Today's question is a comment on YouTube from Jonathan.
He used to remember in Excel 2010 that he could do these steps, but they are not working any more.
Jonathan says: first thing is Filter your data.
Select the cells you can see.
Press Alt+Semicolon for Select Visible Cells.
Now I have selected just those four cells.
You will notice it is B2, B5, B8, and B11 are selected.
Then, Clear the filter.
Jonathan says back in Excel 2010, those four cells would stay selected.
They are NOT staying selected anymore.
It is still four individual cells.
But now, it is B2, B3, B4, and B5.
What a weird bug.
So, I report this to the Excel team and copy the other MVPs.
And Wyn Hopkins noticed that the row number selections are correct.
Two, Five, Eight, Eleven.
Isn't that wierd?
Then - look down in the status bar.
1, 2, 3, 4 adds up to 4, 7, 8, 9, Ten.
Look all the way down here in the status bar.
It says the Sum is 22. Not 10.
And the Max is 10, not 4.
What is going on?
It turns out that it is still working.
It is drawing the wrong selection here.
And if we do anything. Switch to another app and back.
Switch to another sheet and back.
Ctrl+C to Copy.
Or Ctrl+B for Bold.
It switches back to the correct selection.
So the correct cells are selected, but it is drawing the wrong selection.
This will make a lot of people think that it is not working.
We will see how quickly the Excel team can fix this.
